Flow & Restore Workshop Series:  Upper Back

This workshop series has been developed in conjunction with our weekly Flow and Restore class. This class is sequenced at a much slower pace in comparison to our Vinyasa classes and focuses on specific zone of the body.

 

This workshop series will focus on highlighting specific areas of the body to provide individuals with a more in-depth understanding of their anatomy. Participants will learn the common ailments associated with the specific muscle groupings, and receive a collection of self-care tools to help alleviate issues they may have currently or to better prevent these problems in the future. During the workshop, we will begin with a brief chat discussing the anatomy of the target area, work through a yoga sequence, and finish with a rolling session. After the workshop,  participants should hopefully be able to comfortably practice these self-care techniques at home. Packets will be provided outlining the information discussed, and participants will have access to videos to help guide them through the practices at home.

 

Upper Back

 

For the first part of this series we will focus on the upper back. The upper back is one of the most common areas where people carry tension. Most pain that is present in the upper back is the result of overstretched muscles from prolonged postural strain.  Another common cause of pain is from either repetitively lifting objects over your head or lifting objects that are too heavy. During this part of our Flow and Restore Series we will explore the anatomy of the upper back, yoga asanas to help stretch and strengthen this area, and some rolling techniques to help relax and release tension.

 

What to bring

 

All necessary supplies will be provided at the workshop. If however you would like to use your own belongings please feel free to bring any of the following: a yoga mat, yoga props (blocks and belt), foam roller, and tennis balls. If you are interested in purchasing any of these items beforehand Katie would be happy to assist you, otherwise most items can be purchased from Academy Sports.

 

This workshop series is intended to provide you with self-care techniques to help support and prevent pain to the specific areas discussed. Katie is a certified yoga instructor and licensed massage therapist. This workshop should not be construed as a substitute for medical examination, diagnosis, or treatment and you are encouraged to see a physician, chiropractor, or other qualified medical specialists for any mental or physical ailment. Katie is not qualified to perform spinal or skeletal adjustments, diagnose, prescribe, or treat any physical or mental illness, and that nothing said in the course or the session given should be construed as such.
